alanmcliff commented on the group SCRIPTS's wall:I am very interested in submitting a script that i completed last year for review. I see there is an address below that i can send it to. Is there any payment involved? And would I have to submit a CV or synopsis along with the script?

by Doc 2 months agoFor me it seems that it's Dickens all over. Having just performed as Dickens in Pump Room at Bath; I'm now awaiting a production of my adaptation of Pickwick papers to be toured outdoors by Jenny Wren productions - and then there's a strong possibility I'll be playing Dickens at Christmas with A Christmas Carol.

by Dennis Willis 7 months agoI have been in the business of writing pantomimes for many years now, and although almost 85% of all panto productions are performed within the UK it never ceases to amaze me just where around the world they are performed. Some of my scripts have been performed in the most unlikely of places for what is considered a peculiarly British form of theatre. From an outdoor amphitheatre theatre in Perth Australia, to Qatar where it had to be run by the official censor, to a large theatre in Bejing - and no, it wasn't Aladdin - audiences are laughing to 'it's behind you'. Although how they convey the naunces of double entendres in various languages is anybody's guess. Being connected with Limelight Scripts publishers gives me a great insight into the preferences of groups in different countries. Australians mainly favour the well-known panto's such as Aladdin, Cinderella and, but their schools tend to go for newer titles such as Scrooge and The Wizard Of Oz. Whereas in North America, they tend to favour Robin Hood, Scrooge and Dick Whittington. I suppose it's anything connected with old England that they have more of an affinity with. But having watched several DVD's of shows sent to us from around the globe, it is amazing how good some of these groups are. But by far the most amazing was sent to us by a large theatre group in South Africa. They had just performed Alice In Wonderland, and after watching the DVD we gave them some feedback on the show. And it was only then that they informed us that the girl playing Alice was in fact blind. If they hadn't told us we would never have known, such was her performance and assurance around the stage.

by Editor 11 months agoAmateur Stage Magazine is proud to announce that New Directions Playwrighting Competition has been launched today.
New Directions aims to help promote new writing by raising the profile of writers and encouraging amateur groups to take a risk on new writing.
The competition is open in two sections - One Act and Full Length Plays. A cash prize of £500 for the One Act Play section and £1000 for the full length play section is offered.
Recognising that new writing needs support the competition is being sponsored by Lazy Bee Scripts, Spotlight Publications, Josef Weinberger, Scottish Plays, New Theatre Publications, Samuel French, Stage Scripts, Nick Hern Books, The Little Theatre Guild, Amateur Stage Magazine, Amdram.co.uk and Stage Whispers Magazine in Australia.
Full details of the competition are now published on the Amateur Stage Website (www.amateurstagemagazine.co.uk) along with entry details.
The winning entries will be announced in 2012 at a gala event at a West End Theatre.

by Mike in Malaga 1 year agoI have written a number of plays - but don't know how to get them performed. I have tried sending them to agents and theatre companies, but rarely even get a reply.
Maybe they are no good, but who knows until they have read them? -
