Student Theatre... and the Rawness of it all

By Michael Starr | British Playwright
So i've just returned from a student university performance of a pantomime based around Snoopy the dog. As with all student productions they were late to set up, late to start and one of the cast members didn't even show. It doesn't stop there though... The venue was a run down student bar, the speakers didn't work, the sound was awful, there was no stage lighting (and terrible make up)... but actually... it all... kinda... worked... which proves that there is a formula to success and it doesn't involve cosmetics.

If you're a playwright, or a performer, take a look at one or two of these student shows. What they lack in finise they certainly make up for in enthusiasm. The script was witty, the performances were sharp and I'd actually go as far as to say it wouldn't look out of place at a play festival against "pro amateur group productions."

Nice one!

Royalty Free Playscript Offer!

By Michael Starr | British Playwright
Hey guys, as an introduction to this AS Magazine community. I'm going to be offering my one act murder mystery comedy script 'The Cook Did It!' royalty free to amateur theatre groups until the end of 2010.

The reason for this is because all productions of it to date have been outside the UK, and I really want to see this one performed. So to apply, you need to be within the UK and of amateur status.
